With summer upon us and all three kids at home, we’ve come into a new season of togetherness. We’ve decided to pull my eldest son out of Heights Christian Middle School to homeschool him next year. He’ll be joining his younger sister and brother, who homeschooled with me this past year through fifth and first grades.
My husband will also work from home since COVID prompted us to make an office for him in the master bedroom five years ago. All of us will be together learning and growing in this little three-bedroom bungalow in Uptown Whittier. As this is the case, I’m unsure how much space and time I’ll have to write in the days ahead.
In addition to this, I’ve been experiencing a season of writer’s rest. While writing is a joy and passion, it can also become a way to handle turmoil during times of stress and angst. As a trying season has just ended for me, I’ve not felt the urge to write as much. This is the first time since beginning this substack blog two years ago that I haven’t had blogs in the queue awaiting publication.
Don’t worry. This is not the end of my posts, but I’ve no idea when the Muse will visit again. I have experienced these lulls in writing before, so I have no doubt the ideas will come when it’s time. When they do, I plan to post family life and personal stories on Fridays. Tuesdays are my analytical post days, and Sundays are for poems and scripture-based posts. What would you like to read more of?
Maybe in the weeks ahead, I’ll write about the milk taste-testing game we conducted around our dinner table the other night. (The children decided oat milk was the most disgusting-est.) Maybe I’ll write about how the kids are taking the initiative to redo their bedrooms. Maybe I’ll write about Phil’s rat-killing spree or our seasonal battle with fleas. And I haven’t forgotten the need to chronicle some of my experiences as a Middle School small group leader for the past four years. Yes, there are stories to tell.
Thank you to my paid subscribers for supporting me, and thank you to my subscribers who read what I write. I don’t see how anyone has the time to read it all. If you aren’t a paid subscriber, I’d appreciate it if you became one to support our family in our journey ahead. Did you know that I make more money off this blog than I do off my book, Pep Talks for Moms?
If you must read more now, feel free to catch up on the 330 posts I’ve written in the past two years. Here are a few links to get you started. Enjoy!
I'm excited for you on your upcoming togetherness. It's such a precious time in your family's life and very worth investing in. So write when it's a good thing for you and your family. Thanks for sharing! I'll be praying for you guys as you connect and grow in new ways, together.
You deserve a rest!
