Weekend To Remember
FamilyLife Marriage Retreat
Phil and I just got back from FamilyLife’s Weekend to Remember, which was held at the Hyatt hotel right down the street from Disneyland. What a time we had! We were surrounded by people who were intentionally seeking to grow their marriage. We listened to humorous speakers share from their hearts, had peaceful, uninterrupted meals, wrote love letters to each other, and renewed our vows.
FamilyLife Ministries has this retreat down to an art, from the greeters to their resource table to their content flow to their app. The weekend reminded us of our Royal Caribbean Cruise last Spring. Everyone was so sweet and encouraging, and they were all rooting for our marriage.
One of the things that surprised me was their approach to headship and submission. In case you haven’t been a subscriber for long, this has been a hot topic for me. FamilyLife Ministries really stressed unity, friendship, joint decision-making, mutual respect and love, and surrendering our whole selves to God first and foremost.
Overall, I was blessed by this weekend and would recommend this retreat to anyone who’s looking to strengthen their marriage.
On the last day, they asked the couples who were comfortable to stand and face each other to renew their vows, and then they gave us a certificate. Gosh, that was a tear jerker. When we got home, we repeated the vows for our kids and asked them to sign as witnesses.
Saying these words again meant so much more than it did nineteen years ago. Now our commitment feels richer and fuller. We’ve had failings, got distracted, come back together, and grown in our faith. We’ve found new things to appreciate about each other, to share, and to sharpen. God has surprised me with the blessing of deep companionship and intimacy through my husband, Phillip. I’m truly looking forward to the years ahead!

Love, love, love this! I'm so happy for you both. Sweet to have the kids witness your vows, too. You're passing down a legacy of strong marriage, which is gold for future generations!
Praise the Lord for this last weekend event! I agree with what Robin said! Exactly!
