You know what was nice about school? Getting good grades. If you never got good grades in school, then imagine getting them. You do the homework correctly, you study well for tests, you put in the work, and viola! You get the report card with the A’s and B’s and maybe an odd C or two. You know you’ve done well. You can relax and celebrate and have a summer break. Woohoo!

Sometimes, I’d like to go back to the days of getting good grades. Knowing that I’m doing well and how I need to improve would be nice. A report card does that. It gives definitive data. It gives a standard and then people meet it.

But when you’re a mom, how do you know you’re doing anything right? I hope not by the number of toys my kids leave out. I hope not by the number of fights my kids have in a day. I hope not by the way they think of themselves before others. Do I get points for creativity?
