Monday, June 1, 2020 Called Dianne in the evening to see how she and Charlie are doing in the midst of the protests. She speaks in a higher-than-normal tone of voice, rapidly saying that Charlie’s hours are all over the place. “The number of emergency calls has shot through the roof,” she tells me. “And they can’t get there because of the looters and riots in L.A. People are having serious emergencies and no one can get to them. Charlie’s so stressed out. He came out yelling the other day because he was trying to sleep, but I didn’t even know he was home. He slips in the back door and just collapses in bed. He doesn’t tell me his schedule and it’s different every day. Besides, how am I supposed to keep the kids quiet when I have to teach my classes? He said if it’s not quiet, then he’ll rent a room at a hotel.” Feel nauseated at this. Am sure this is not a good sign. Husband sleeping at hotel. Bad. Bad. Bad. But what can I say?
