I’m pleased to announce that my daughter’s eleventh birthday was a smashing success. Neither she nor I collapsed into tears at the end, and we still reflect on it fondly.

It was Roman goddess-themed. We dressed seven girls in white bed sheets wrapped and tied in knots at the back of their necks. My mom repurposed old curtain trim to make their belts. And one of the little girls made wire bracelets for everyone. My daughter researched Roman goddess names, designed figurines for everyone, and spent hours hand-crafting decorations. Her ideas and energy were astounding.
