Sharing Patterns
Something magical happens when we write things down. We begin to see patterns emerge, themes and plots surface, and slowly life isn’t as chaotic or senseless as we thought it was. That’s what this is: a place where I share the beauty and meaning behind what so often seems mundane or tragic or peculiar in life.
1. Why Substack?
True confession: I’m using this platform as a way to earn money through writing. While I’ve taught pre-algebra and PSAT classes, been a bookkeeper, tutor and babysitter, writing is where I derive the most joy. So this is a test to see if I can make some dough by doing what I love.
2. What I write
I wish when you pushed that subscribe button, you were subscribing to Jesus and not me, but alas, subscribing to Jesus is both harder and easier than pushing a button. It takes time and wisdom to learn how to subscribe to Jesus’ ways. And that’s what I write about. This is practical theology through stories, humor, poetry, analysis and real life events. I’m contemplative, perceptive, and transparent (or so I’m told), and thus am able to portray and analyze in an unique way.
3. Specifics
I write about how God is involved in motherhood, home repairs, cleaning, friendship, church, science, the news, school, literature, basically everything. There is no sphere where God is not working or where we cannot see God signs dousing the universe with beauty and depth and meaning.
I talk about how doing the dishes can be worshipful? What’s the point of church ? Should we be afraid of ChatGPT? How might I tell my kids the gospel? How can technology be used for good? What do I do when I discover I didn’t marry Superman? What might Heaven be like? Why shouldn’t we fear demons?
I’m also writing a humorous novel called COVID Diaries loosely based off my journals over the last three years. Believe me. It’s funny.
4. What you get by subscribing
Paid subscribers will receive one email post a week. Non-paying subscribers will get one email post a month. Super-subscribers will receive one chapter of COVID Diaries a day in addition to the weekly email posts. All subscribers will be able to comment and provide input to what I write. I appreciate feedback.
5. So subscribe
There you have it. You know all you need to know (I hope). So tell your friends and come along!
